CEO letter
They did everything to develop the aquaculture industry, but we know, as they knew, that we are not just farmers. We are entrepreneurs who must adapt to the world or perish. Yesterday’s solutions won’t be enough tomorrow, and it is our duty to further develop the industry.
One of the biggest risks in the industry is not taking risks. It is not a right to inherit an aquaculture company, but a duty to develop it. The aquaculture industry is built on entrepreneurship along the coast, the ability to create value where none was believed to exist and solving problems every day. Now, sea lice are our biggest enemy, but we will succeed in defeating them. With Watermoon, we separate the lice from the salmon, our time’s most important aquaculture innovation.
Eide takes risks to solve challenges. We stand firm against the storms and do not break. We are not afraid that others might solve the problems better than us, because our strength comes from the courage in our hearts and the will to continue ahead. Competition is necessary, and we love to compete, for it is in the struggle that we find our greatness.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the best people. I am proud and grateful to work with such skilled employees at Eide. You are better than what can possibly be described with words, and your ability to collaborate and work hard every day is unique. My father and I always talked about how “when others bring their boats into the harbor, that’s when we head out to sea, for that is when the opportunities are greatest”. Eide doesn’t sit still waiting for others to find solutions, we head out to sea to find them ourselves.
Our strength is that we are a group of hungry innovators, even though we have over 50 years of experience. We reset after each goal, ready to face the next challenge with renewed energy. We are never fully satisfied, even though we have won a battle. We shall win the war. Our vision of setting the standard for the future of aquaculture is our common direction and guideline.
Salmon Eye and the Iris restaurant tell a story of hope, challenge, and limitless possibilities. We honor our roots and know where we come from but use history as a platform to aim for new horizons.
Watermoon is the result of 53 years of targeted work and continuous innovation. We have created the technology ourselves, focusing on fish welfare and sustainable food production. Our politicians must facilitate change and innovation. The announced environmental flexibility scheme could be a catalyst, but it must come quickly and be accurate. They must ensure that we can exchange an open license for three closed ones.
Our people, throughout the value chain, are the reason we have reached where we are. Your effort, dedication, and passion set the standard for the future of aquaculture. This is not just a job. It is our passion and struggle. Every day we wake up thinking: “Today I will surpass myself.” And every night we go to bed knowing that we have given our best. In Eide, we have a culture where everyone dares to speak their mind, and it is the best idea that should be selected, regardless of who and where it comes from.
Going forward, we will not rest, believe we are good, or slack off. We will press the gas pedal through the floor and have fun! We have come far in 2023, but we will go so much further. Some call us crazy. We are Eide. We carry our roots with us but know that growth comes from the photosynthesis of the future. We will take risks and rise from every setback. We will triumph over every challenge. We know that we must fail a lot to learn through collaboration. We will never, never, never give up!
